Lease To Home

The Lease to Home Program is the Women's Center's innovative program focused on assisting people in transition from homelessness to homeownership. The main purpose of this program is to offer the opportunity to people of all backgrounds the chance to own their own home.

Since the program's inception, 33 families have become homeowners.

Lease to Home properties are typically 3-bedroom, 2 bathroom single family homes on ¼ acre lots. They are located in family-friendly neighborhoods with schools located nearby. Rents for these properties vary between $550 and $650 per month, depending on the house and the family's income level.

To be eligible for this program, means:

  • Currently living in a shelter or transitional housing.
  • Being on the verge of eviction.
  • Living with family and/or friends (must be temporary)

Other requirements:

  • Applicants must have a steady form of income.
  • Veterans have priority but they must meet the above criteria.
  • Applicants must attend a mandatory orientation.

Potential clients must attend a mandatory orientation session. Orientation sessions are typically held every other Monday from 12 noon to 1 pm. Call (910) 323-3377 to register.

Once clients are accepted into the program, the Lease to Home program provides:

  • Intensive case management on credit and mortgage counseling and protection from predatory lending practices.
  • Support and guidance through the complex home purchase process.
  • Post-purchase counseling.
  • Information and Referral

The Lease to Home program is committed to the idea that home ownership provides the safest, most affordable option for economically challenged families in our community. Our housing program helps clients achieve and maintain housing while building assets for themselves and their families.
